Dott trials age verification for e-scooter riders

Dott's Secure Age Verification Trial in Lyon

Dott, the European micromobility operator, has launched a secure age verification trial within the city of Lyon, the first of its kind in Europe. The identity verification system corroborates the true identity of the rider with ID capture and a quick selfie with a liveness check to ensure users are over 18. This announcement follows the win of an e-scooter tender in July and Dott's strong safety commitment.

Dott self-service scooters are accessible to users over the age of 18. Previously, a declaration of honor was required to register for the service, stating that if the user was untruthful about their age, they would not be covered by automatic comprehensive insurance.

As of Monday, October 26, new Dott users will undergo a quick digital age and identity verification process after their first ride in Lyon. This unique trial enables the company to protect user safety and ensures that only age-appropriate riders use Dott e-scooters.

This verification process is managed by Jumio, a leading provider of AI-powered end-to-end identity verification and eKYC solutions. Jumio's technology leverages AI, biometrics, machine learning, liveness detection, and automation to establish the real-world identity of users. Once compatibility between the identity document and the person's face has been established, personal data is managed by Jumio in accordance with GDPR regulations.

For Henri Moissinac, CEO of Dott: “This trial is part of a comprehensive prevention and safety policy led by Dott so that traveling on a scooter remains a pleasure in a peaceful city!”

For Sam Duggan, Head of Account Management, EMEA at Jumio: “We are delighted that Dott chose Jumio’s services to verify the identity and age of all their scooter riders in Lyon. Our aim is to create a speedy onboarding experience for customers ready to hop on a scooter and enjoy the city safely.”
